Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was launched on 30th March 1998 to release the water supply, drainage, and dumping of sewage functions within the areas of Delhi’s National Capital Territory.
Before the Delhi Jal Board was launched, all these functions were managed under the department of Sewage Disposal Undertaking and Delhi Water Supply. All other departments such as Military Engineering Services, New Delhi Municipal Counsel, and Delhi Cantonment Board also get water supply from the Delhi Jal Board. This board also supplies water to other places where it has not been launched yet but planned. Under Delhi Municipal Corporation 1957 Act, the Sewage Disposal Undertaking and board of Delhi Water Supply is constituted.
Under Delhi Water Board 1998 Act, the Delhi Jal Board was constituted for performing the major function of producing and distributing drinking water within Delhi. The waste water collection and sewage is also one of the responsibilitiesof theJal Board in state of Delhi. Up to 1st April 2004, total connections for water provided by this Jal Board were about 15.14 lakhs. The basic motive of Delhi Jal Board is to provide its service with great efficiency to Delhi’s citizens and also to perform intimate behavior at professional level.
The basic motive of Delhi Jal Board is to provide consistent, good quality, affordable priced drinking water supply and also service of collection of waste water and its treatment. This board is able to encourage a commendable sphere in terms of reliability of supply and quality of service that lead to the satisfaction of the customer, greater supply reliability and service quality; leading to greater customer satisfaction, better compliance to pay, and recovery of improved cost. This Delhi Jal Board also works for the improvement of service for poor, Customer direction, responsibility and sustainability in finance, efficiency to enhance system of operation, and sustainability of Environment etc.
